Vale Tony Bleasdale OAM

A statement from Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Zlatko Skrbis.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Tony Bleasdale OAM.

As both deputy mayor then mayor of Blacktown City Council, Councillor Bleasdale was a foundational advocate for the establishment of the university’s Blacktown Campus in 2020 and more recently as a partner in the BCC BEST Centre at Rooty Hill.

Councillor Bleasdale’s great enthusiasm and passion for the people of Western Sydney will be missed. He led public debate to provide equity between East and West Sydney in opportunities for education, health, infrastructure and amenities. He has been a friend and supporter to many of our staff, walking alongside us as our campus grew from a fledgeling concept to the thriving community it has become.

We will miss his “I’m excited” exclamation at the commencement of his speeches, his personable approach and contagious laugh as he shared stories with students, colleagues and community.

On behalf of ACU, I send our prayers and condolences to the Bleasdale family, friends, councillors and staff at Blacktown City Council.

May he rest in peace.
