The Faculty of Education and Arts (FEA) is at the forefront of research in education, humanities, psychology and social sciences in Australia. We have a team of internationally eminent scholars and dedicated academic staff who can offer supervision for research higher degrees in the disciplines of education, psychology, design, drama, English and literature, archaeology, geography, history, political science, sociology, youth work and across a comprehensive range of areas. FEA provides a dynamic and supportive research environment including seminars, training courses and mentor programs, all contributing to the successful experience of higher degree research.
Students who wish to undertake a HDR program at ACU can do so through either a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree.
Depending upon your research field, the major component of research degree programs is usually a substantial written work (thesis) which investigates a particular subject or issue. A research student works independently under the direction of academic supervisors. Prospective students are expected to have an agreed principal supervisor for a proposed project before they make a formal application to a research program.
When completing a thesis for a research degree, students gain deep understanding of one or more subject areas, as well as developing analytical, problem solving, communication and project management skills. These skills are highly valued by prospective employers. Our HDR graduates pursue careers in many areas including universities, industry, the public sector, education and research organisations.
If you wish to apply for candidature and a stipend scholarship, refer to the application deadline listed on the research scholarships page.
Applications are accepted from prospective domestic and international candidates.
