Entry into this course is based on a combination of a written submission including a Curriculum Vitae, a transcript of results, school reports, references, an essay, an interview, and academic performance. Applicants are assessed on a combination of:

  1. ATAR or Selection Rank, International Baccalaureate (IB), or equivalent, and
  2. Interview.

Definition

Major: 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at an introductory level, at least 40 cp at 200-level and at least 20 cp from 300-level.

Minor: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at an introductory level and at least 20 cp at an advanced level.

Completion requirements

To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:

  1. 130 cp from Western Civilisation Specified units (Part A)
  2. 10 cp from Community Engagement unit (Part B)
  3. 20 cp from Western Civilisation Elective units (Part C)
  4. 80 cp from:
  5. Bachelor of Arts Major (Part D) OR
  6. 2 Bachelor of Arts Minors (Part E) OR
  7. 1 Bachelor of Arts Minor (Part F) and 40 cp of Elective units (Part G) OR
  8. Elective units (Part H)

Other requirements

Students are required to follow the pattern of unit enrolment set out in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide, unless otherwise approved by the Course Coordinator. In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator.

Exit points

Students who have met the requirements of the Diploma in Liberal Arts can exit with this award.

Progression requirements

Unless otherwise specified, students must complete a unit or units at an introductory level (100-level) in an approved sequence before undertaking advanced level units (200 or 300-level) in that sequence. Any additional prerequisites for individual units are shown in brackets after the unit in the Schedule of Unit Offerings.

A student may, with the approval of the Course Coordinator, undertake cross-institutional study in order to satisfy the requirements, in whole or in part, a Major or a Minor in a language other than English.
