The Community Care Van is part of the various charitable works of the Order of Malta. With charitable works across Australia and the globe, the Community Care Van – Parramatta services the Diocese of Parramatta through the distribution of custom designed waterproof Coats for the Homeless (winter), sun protection items (summer), together with water and hygiene packs.
A first aid kit is also available if trained volunteers are on duty. The Community Care Van is located at St Patricks Cathedral, and we begin our works in Alfred Park (across the road from St Patricks Cathedra) and then walk down Church Street to Parramatta Train Station and then make our way back to St Patricks Cathedral. During the evening we distribute the various items and have conversations with the homeless/vulnerable that we serve. There is also the opportunity to attend a Youth Camp for young people disabilities in 3-5 November.
Students would meet at the location of the Parramatta Community Care Van (at St Patricks Cathedral) to prepare the items for distribution. Students would then walk (and/or drive Community Care Van) to Albert Park and commence the distribution of the coats for the homeless during winter and sun protection during summer, together with water and hygiene packs. Students would also have conversation with the homeless/vulnerable people on the streets. If students are First Aid trained, they can also carry the First Aid kit. From Albert Park students would then walk down Church Street to Parramatta Station and then walk back to St Patricks Cathedral.
Every Monday, 5:45pm to 7:45pm (Meet at the Car Park of St Patricks Cathedral, Parramatta)
