Blacktown Libraries which has branches across Blacktown LGA (Blacktown, Mt Druitt, Lalor Park, Stanhope Gardens, Riverstone) runs a range of programs from young children to seniors and serves the diverse needs of the community.
There are a variety of programs available to choose from. Each program offers approximately 35 hours.
Students will help children choose a book and then sit with the children and read with them in the library. Each reading session is 20-30 minutes for the children but the program will be 3 hours per week, which includes set up and pack down. Training and induction will be provided prior to the program commencing.
Provide students with additional space for study leading up to trials and end of year exams. ACU students will host additional study space provided by Blacktown City Libraries. ACU students will build rapport with young people and provide a survey for students to fill in to see how Blacktown City Libraries can best meet their needs.
The students will be hosting the conversations (with already designed conversation cards), ensuring that the environment is supportive and will be encouraging the participants to be involved in the conversations.
The simple structure of this event makes it feasible for anyone and everyone to become a part of the small group, being a part of conversations that move from trivial topics to conversations that matter. The goal is not to find answers, but to listen, develop ideas and say them.
