ACU recognised among top 40 young universities worldwide

Australian Catholic University (ACU) has been ranked in the Top 40 Young universities globally, announced by Times Higher Education (THE) on Tuesday 15 February.

THE Young University Rankings 2022 has placed ACU number 39 in the world, up three places from 42 last year.

ACU’s position in this ranking has been rising steadily since 2018.

The university’s move into the top 40 “young” universities in the world is acknowledgement that it has rapidly become a globally competitive university providing internationally recognised degree programs, as well as a focus on broad engagement at both a local and international level.

The announcement follows 2022 THE Global rankings, in which ACU retained its 251–300 position and remains in the top 2 per cent of universities globally as well as the top 10 Catholic universities.

ACU’s Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise Professor James McLaren said, “the ranking highlights ACU’s continued improvement in world rankings as a result of our sustained approach to research excellence”.

The steady increase in the rankings since 2018 is predominantly due to ACU’s improved citations, with a near perfect score of 95.9.

International outlook score also increased, with international collaboration driving the improvement.

THE Young University Rankings list the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. The table is based on the same 13 performance indicators as the flagship The Times Higher Education ranking.

Established in 1990, ACU is a national university that operates in a number of jurisdictions domestically, overseas and via ACU Online. ACU was also ranked first in Australia for graduate employment, in the Graduate Outcomes Survey – Longitudinal 2020, full-time employment.
