Why aren’t school grounds open after hours?

Debate had continued to rage around public access to government and private school facilities.

ACU educational leadership expert and former school principal Dr Paul Kidson has penned a piece for The Conversation about whether school grounds and infrastructure including sporting ovals, ball sport courts, libraries, halls, and pools should be used by the public out of school hours.

As Dr Kidson writes, it's not as simple as just unlocking the gates and letting people in given the potentially serious financial and legal implications.

In his piece, Dr Kidson outlines the complexities involved in the seemingly simple idea of sharing public – and sometimes private – school resources with the community.
