National Child Protection Week - a time for conversations

We are right behind the theme for this year's National Child Protection Week 2024: Every conversation matters. It's a great reminder of how important it is to listen, to build connections, and to believe children and young people when they have concerns.

Focusing on conversations helps us understand the importance of dialogue in creating better futures for our children. Until we make children and young people a national priority, we won't be able to prevent child abuse and neglect. We need to examine what needs to change to ensure the safety of our young people. Every conversation, no matter how small, contributes to this.

Change can happen at many levels: policy, systems and practice. We invite you to read more about why we support a public health approach to protecting children.

If you have been inspired by the National Child Protection Week theme and are looking to upskill, our Tuned In modules might be the resource you are looking for. They offer a self-paced journey to safer child facilitation and can help you develop skills to manage tough conversations with young people.

Designed for adults working with young people, particularly those working in group settings, each module is based on evidence and offers practical techniques for ensuring safe and effective facilitation.

We are proud to be part of the teams from NAPCAN and Run Against Violence that developed this resource, and we acknowledge significant contributions from A/Prof Tim Moore, Dr Mary Ann Powell and Morag McArthur.
