Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Education Research offers an effective pathway for students wanting to take the next step in their career and become eligible to apply for PhD studies in Education. Offered fully online this course provides the required research training to enable students who have not completed honours degrees or master’s by research to qualify to apply for a higher degree by research program.
To prepare for potential doctoral research in Education students need to be able to identify, respond to and solve complex and emerging professional problems in education. This course will provide students with the opportunity to explore and advance their research skills and create new knowledge in a capstone research project that responds to issues and challenges relevant to their profession or disciplinary field as part of this degree.

Applicants with higher education study
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:
a. Bachelor degree equivalent to an Australian Bachelor Degree in Education; or a Bachelor degree equivalent to an Australian Bachelor Degree and a recognised teaching qualification .
You will need to meet the minimum entry requirements and subject prerequisites for your chosen course.
If you have completed at least two units of AQF-recognised study at bachelor level or above, we’ll assign you with a new selection rank that reflects your study level, duration, and grade point average.
If your prior study or relevant work experience has provided you with knowledge, skills or experience aligned with the learning outcomes of units in your new course, you may be eligible to gain credit for study or have your prior learning recognised. This means you may be able to complete your ACU course in a shorter timeframe.

English language requirements
IELTS: Overall score: 7.0; Individual score of 6.0 in all tests
Test of English as a Foreign Language - Academic (TOEFL): 65 with a minimum of 50 in all four communicative skills
Internet-based TOEFL (TOEFL iTB): Overall 94; minimum 21 in writing, 18 in speaking, 13 in reading and 12 in listening
ACU English Language Test: A (75-100%)
Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): Overall CAE 185. Minimum individual score of 169 in all tests.
Adjustment factors
If you’re currently completing Year 12 you may be eligible for adjustment factors that can boost your rank and help you get into your desired course.
Adjustment factors may be applied to your TAC application if you study particular subjects, attend schools geographically close to our campuses or in certain regional areas, apply as an elite athlete or performer or meet certain other criteria.

Dr Jenny Martin is the Chair of Research in the National School of Education. Her leadership in this space has contributed to the vibrant research culture of the School, which extends to our PhD pathway students, such as those undertaking the Graduate Certificate in Education Research, and the introduction of this exciting new course. Her own research program explores teaching practices that enhance student voice and agency. Her work is published in a variety of scientific journals.
