Overview
This Master’s degree will expand your knowledge and skills in leadership and management in healthcare.
Graduates of the Master of Leadership and Management in Healthcare students will be able to:
- evaluate issues and challenges that the industry, healthcare professionals and consumers of their services encounter
- conceptualise new and creative approaches to leadership and management in healthcare to support service delivery in diverse health care settings
- connect theory, practice and research within leadership and management in healthcare
- examine the ethical aspects of personal, social, cultural, environmental and institutional changes within contemporary health care delivery and respond to such changes
- reflect on options and opportunities to enhance professional practice in contemporary local, regional and global healthcare contexts
- contribute to values-based professional practice in dynamic and challenging environments.
Professional recognition
This course is not currently externally accredited. There has been discussion in relation to applying for accreditation with the Australian College of Health Services Management (ACHSM).
The Australasian College of Health Services Management (ACHSM) is the peak professional body for health managers in Australasia and brings together health leaders to learn, network and share ideas. The mission of the College is to recognise, develop and support effective health leadership and management to deliver quality services and improve health and wellbeing by: • providing the best professional development and networking opportunities for health managers • advocating for and promoting the health management profession • recognising the achievements of health service managers • promoting innovation and excellence The College promotes excellence and continual improvement of university training in health service management by providing a national university accreditation program. The national university accreditation standards have been developed through broad consultation with employers, industry groups, health managers and universities, to ensure that graduates who complete these programs are competent to perform the core tasks they face in employment. Currently, there are 39 courses listed as accredited on the ACHSM website, from eleven institutions.

To complete the Master of Leadership and Management in Healthcare, a student must complete 160 credit points (cp).

A student who has completed the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management in Healthcare or the Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Management in Healthcare may exit with the relevant award.
Entry requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Master of Leadership and Management in Healthcare, an applicant must have completed either:
i. a Bachelor degree in a health discipline or equivalent; OR
ii. the Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management in Healthcare, or equivalent; OR
iii. the Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Management in Healthcare, or equivalent.
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
International students need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.

If your previous study has equipped you with knowledge, skills or experiences that align with the learning outcomes of units in your new course you may be able to apply for recognition of prior learning and you may be able to complete your course sooner.
English language requirements
Applicants require an academic IELTS minimum overall score of 6.5 (with a minimum score of 6.0 in all bands), or an equivalent acceptable test score as outlined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.

Course costs
A student’s annual fee may vary in accordance with:
- the number of units studied per semester;
- the choice of major or specialisation; and
- elective units.
The University reviews fees annually.
A 10% rebate on fees will be offered to domestic ACU graduates (from any faculty) enrolling in full fee-paying postgraduate studies in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Conditions apply.

Staff Profile
Ms Theresa Harvey
Lecturer, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine
Ms Theresa Harvey is a registered nurse, registered midwife and academic. Her current position is senior lecturer and International Coordinator in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine (based on Brisbane Campus). She is also a Visiting Nursing and Midwifery Education Fellow at the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital. Ms Harvey has a Masters of Nursing and postgraduate diploma in Further Education and Training, and is currently a PhD candidate at CQU.
Ms Harvey has extensive and varied professional clinical experience in nursing and midwifery. She is an experienced nurse educator in both clinical and academic settings, and has demonstrated leadership expertise in teaching and learning across the undergraduate and postgraduate areas particularly in relation to clinical education. This expertise also includes conducting workshops throughout Queensland, Australia and internationally in relation to facilitating clinical education, especially when working with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
As an academic her education focus has been in undergraduate programs, specifically in relation to clinical experience and bridging the gap between theory and practice. She has also focused on educating clinical facilitators in their role of supporting undergraduate students when on clinical placement. Ms Harvey has published research related to these areas, and has presented at international and local conferences. Further she has co-authored a text book on Health assessment and physical examination. In recent years she has develop a particular interest in understanding how short term study abroad programs assist students development as health care professionals and developing as global citizens.
