This unit will introduce students to the foundations of some of the major religions of the world. Its focus will be on how these religions are expressed in different parts of the globe. At least four of the following will be examined: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Australian Indigenous Religions. The origins and development, central teachings and beliefs, devotional practices and rituals, institutions and cultural expressions of these religions will be considered. Attention will also be given to the Roman Catholic Church's relationship with these other religions, especially since the Second Vatican Council.
