Unit rationale, description and aim

Aquatic ecology is the study of the physical, chemical and biological processes, and their interactions, that occur in marine environments. This unit provides students with an appreciation of the range and diversity of marine habitats. The practical aspects of sampling and undertaking research in both temperate and tropical waters will be covered during local fieldtrips and an extended fieldtrip to a tropical marine station. Management and topical issues relating to the protection of these systems will also be discussed.
