Unit rationale, description and aim

Sustainable chemistry, also know as green chemistry, is a rapidly evolving field that focuses on achieving a sustainable future by promoting innovative chemical technologies that will have minimum or zero impact to the environment and human health. This can be achieved through the application of green chemistry principles across the life cycle of a chemical product, thereby reducing or eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances in the design, manufacture, use and ultimate disposal. This unit offers an overview of green chemistry, using case studies and real examples from industry. It demonstrates new ways of thinking about how products and processes are developed.
