Unit rationale, description and aim

Health education is an area of study that is continually being redefined to include all that is relevant to wellness for the individual, families and the broader community. This unit will include content related to the health of individuals and populations and address community concerns and key initiatives in health education. Students will participate in activity-based workshops that address personal and community health topics as well as health issues relevant to their future working environments. In an effort to assist teachers to develop and deliver appropriate health content for schools, there will be opportunities to collaborate with local health agencies to produce health education resources. The production of a health teaching-learning resource will enable students to develop methods of best practice when working with other community health educators to deliver health education programs in the school environment.
