Unit rationale, description and aim

This unit enables independent scholarship and critical understanding of action research when working with young children, early childhood educators and related professionals. In-service educators will synthesise specialised knowledge and skills acquired in previous units and apply these to an action research project/topic as a reflective process of progressive problem solving to address an issue, problem or theory within their community of practice in order to improve the way the issue or problem is addressed. The project will allow students to critically reflect on their discipline and the application of that discipline in an authentic experience. Students will, under the guidance of their research supervisor, undertake a systematic investigation on how to improve strategies, practices and knowledge within early childhood learning environments or the early childhood sector. This project will be undertaken in conjunction with professional (teaching) experience as a co-requisite.
