Unit rationale, description and aim

Nutrition is a major determinant of population health outcomes. Competent public health practitioners need to have a sound understanding of how to address local population health issues through food and nutritionrelated health promotion strategies. This unit helps students to obtain knowledge and understanding of health promotion strategies required to address nutrition-related issues of local communities. In this unit, students will investigate the history and nature of major contemporary community nutrition-related issues and learn how to address these issues through application of various frameworks and processes of community nutrition practice. Students will explore the major nutrition issues in both Australian and overseas populations and communities. In particular, students will learn to analyse the determinants and management of population-based nutrition issues by exploring and evaluating various community nutrition strategies and interventions towards enhancing population health.
