Unit rationale, description and aim

This unit focuses on identification and critical evaluation of social, historical, political and economic frameworks for understanding how needs and social issues are socially constructed. It provides an advanced understanding of how different social policy responses are developed in relation to changing conceptions of social 'problems'. The unit also explores the history of the social work profession and developments in response to social and economic transformations. A major component of this unit focuses on Indigenous social issues, policy and service responses, and historical and current perspectives of the experiences of Indigenous Australians.
