Admission requirements
An applicant must comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy .
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed a Bachelor degree in any discipline. Applicants also need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy .

Completion requirements
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, including:
- 80 cp from the Specified Units (Part A);
- 10 cp from Introduction to Theological and Philosophical Research (Part B);
- 20 from Capstone Integrative Project B (Spiritual Direction) (Part C);
AND
Praxis Stream
- 10 cp from Supervised Giving of the Spiritual Exercises (Part D);
- 40 cp from Electives * (Part E);
or
Theory Stream
- 50 cp from Electives*(Part E).
Other requirements
- A minimum of 80 cp of units studied must be at the 600-level;
- Capstone Integrative Project B (Spiritual Direction) will normally be undertaken during the last two semesters of coursework.
Exit points
A student who has completed the 80 cp of specified units from Part A of the Schedule of Unit Offerings in the Master of Spiritual Direction may exit with a Graduate Diploma in Spiritual Direction.
Progression requirements
- Students wishing to progress to the Praxis Stream, will be required to attend an interview with the Jesuit College of Spirituality, Master of Spiritual Direction Panel upon completion of THSP507 Spiritual Exercises – Praxis B. The Panel will assess the student’s suitability to progress on the basis of academic achievement, capacity for discernment, reflective practice and relevant experience.
- Students not meeting the criteria for the Praxis Stream will be able to complete the award via the Theory Stream or exit with the Graduate Diploma in Spiritual Direction.
