Unit rationale, description and aim
This zero-credit point unit addresses the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) accreditation requirement that all initial teacher education students possess personal literacy and numeracy skills in the top 30 per cent of the population.
The national Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) is an online assessment that examines aspects of an individual's personal literacy and numeracy skills. The test is comprised of two components, a literacy component and a numeracy component. It is administered externally by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
The aim of this unit is to record successful completion of the LANTITE literacy requirement.

Content
The literacy test forms one of two parts of the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Tests for Initial Teacher Education students (LANTITE) which is the nationally approved means for demonstrating that all standards have been met.

Learning and teaching strategy and rationale
LNTE100 is not a taught unit. Students are assisted in the development of personal literacy and numeracy skills through LNTE110. Students may sit the ACER test any time following completion of the diagnostic test. Students are encouraged to register to attempt the test within their first semester of study. Students normally have up to a year to prepare for and complete the test. Students must successfully complete LANTITE to progress through professional experience. Students should review their course map and unit outlines to identify which professional experience placement included LANTITE completion as a pre-requisite requirement.
Assessment strategy and rationale
This is a pass/fail unit. Students must achieve the standard in the literacy component of LANTITE to pass the unit.
