EFTSL value of units : All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
Admission requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours), a student must have:
Completed an approved ACU undergraduate degree, or equivalent, normally within the last five years with a minimum GPA as stipulated in the University Guidelines for Honours Programs.
Students must have attained one of the following:
- a GPA of 5.50 on the ACU seven-point scale in their major, or field of study, in the relevant undergraduate degree[1]; or
- for students who have completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design degree, achieved a Distinction in at least one of any Art Theory unit AND a GPA of 5.50 on the ACU seven-point scale across the visual arts/design units in their final year of study; or
- for students who have completed a Bachelor degree in Media, achieved a Distinction in at least one of any Media Theory unit AND a GPA of 5.50 on the ACU seven-point scale across their final year in their media/digital journalism units;
Students must also meet any other requirements stipulated in the University Guidelines for Honours Programs.
Offers of admission to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) require the approval of the National Head of School, or nominee, and will only be made where the student's proposed area of study aligns with a demonstrated capacity for Honours research and supervision within the School.
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
International applicants need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
In accordance with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, students who do not meet the standard requirements for entry to Bachelor of Arts (Honours) may be eligible for admission if they can demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and/or competencies. Particular equity groups, including students who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, from low SES, regional or remote areas, may also be eligible for admission under equity pathways such as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Special Entry Scheme or the Special Consideration for Long Term Educational Disadvantage (Universities Admissions Centre) Education Access Scheme (EAS). In accordance with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, any such applications will be assessed by the National Head of the National School of Arts and Humanities.

Completion requirements
To qualify for the Honours degree a student must, in addition to satisfying the requirements of the undergraduate degree, complete 80 cp from the Schedule of Honours Units, consisting of:
- 10cp from Research Theory and Methods (Part A);
- 20cp from Advanced Coursework (Part B); and
- 50cp from either Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Research Thesis* (Part C) or Creative Practice and Exegesis/Dissertation** (Part D).
* Students will be able to complete their Research Thesis in one of the following fields of study: Archaeology, Design and Technologies, Drama, Economics, English, Geography, Environment and Society, Global Studies, History, International Development Studies, Mathematics, Media, Music, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, Sociology, Study of Religions, Theological Studies, Visual Arts and Design, Youth Work.
** Students will be able to complete their Creative Project and Exegesis/Dissertation in one of the following fields of study: Design and Technologies, Drama, English (Creative Writing), Media, Music, or Visual Arts and Design.
Progression requirements
Students who are undertaking their major project as an Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Research Thesis, will enrol in the HUMA stream; students undertaking their major project as a Creative Project and Exegesis/Dissertation will enrol in the ARTS stream. To enrol in the ARTS stream, students must have the approval of the National Head of School. All students undertaking the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) are required to enrol in HUMA402 Introduction to Thesis Research and Design (Part A).
Students will be advised by the Course Coordinator and bound by decisions of the School Committee.

1. Where a student has completed a double degree at the Bachelor level, the GPA rule will be calculated/assessed for the major within the relevant degree in the National School of Arts and Humanities.
