Learning and teaching strategy and rationale
Pre-service teachers will be involved in a variety of teaching-learning strategies to progress and demonstrate their understandings in this unit. Participants will be involved in a variety of teaching-learning strategies to support learning, including: practical workshops and tutorials, formal lectures and visits to galleries, museums, and performances.
This is a 10-credit point unit and has been designed to ensure that the time needed to complete the required volume of learning to the requisite standard is approximately 150 hours in total with a normal expectation of 36 hours of directed study and the total contact hours should not exceed 36 hours. Directed study might include lectures, tutorials, webinars, podcasts etc. The balance of the hours then become private study.
Assessment strategy and rationale
The assessment tasks and their weightings are designed to allow pre-service teachers to progressively demonstrate achievement against the unit learning outcomes and demonstrate attainment of professional standards.
Minimum Achievement Standards
This unit requires that two assessment tasks be completed covering the selected areas of study within the Creative Arts, equivalent to 4,000 words.
Overview of assessments
Brief Description of Kind and Purpose of Assessment Tasks | Weighting | Learning Outcomes | Graduate Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Assessment Task 1: In response to the content of the practical arts workshops within the unit develop a reflective journal that demonstrates a good understanding of key curriculum content, concepts and pedagogy in the creative arts as relevant to the selected arts area/s. Develop at least two of these experiences to include critical consideration of resources, motivations, ICT resources and teaching support necessary to implement an extended arts experiences in primary school setting. The proposed learning experience must be supported by links to relevant theories, literature and curriculum. (selecting two of the arts disciplines covered in this unit) | 50% | LO1, LO2, LO3, LO5 | GA3, GA4, GA5, GA9, GA10 |
Assessment task 2 Based on content and experiences from this unit and your own research of the literature an artist and/or artwork (in art, dance, drama, music and/or media), and an understanding of relevant national or state curriculum documents design three learning sequences that incorporate a range of teaching and learning experiences for children in primary school settings. These learning experiences should differentiate for a range of abilities and be stage appropriate. The learning experiences should include appropriate and relevant assessment plans. Planning should integrate the Creative arts with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and be appropriate to the three arts discipline areas not covered in Task 1. | 50% | LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5 | GA3, GA4, GA5, GA9, GA10 |
