Note:

To complete the program in 4 years, students will need to take some units in the Winter and Summer study periods.


EFTSL value of units : All 10cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a credit point (cp) value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

Admission requirements

An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy which includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement.

In addition, applicants will be required to demonstrate suitability for teaching as evidenced by completion of the relevant State assessment which will be provided in the application process.

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level or equivalent:

Assumed Knowledge: 

A minimum of three Band 5 HSC results (including one in English), and a Mathematics Band 4 HSC result. 

Note: This course is structured to allow applicants to meet the three Band 5 and/or the Mathematics Band 4 entry requirements within the first year of the course.

Victoria

English Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English.

Mathematics Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion of two units (any study combination) of General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics OR Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics.

Completion requirements

To qualify for the award a student must complete 360 cp comprising:

a. 140 cp from Psychology Specified units from the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Part A)

b. 20 cp from Core Curriculum units (Part B)

c. 80 cp from Undergraduate Education units (Part C)

d. 120 cp from Postgraduate Education units from the Master of Teaching (Primary) (Part D)

e. 0 cp from ACER Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education units (Part E)

Additional Approvals

All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. In New South Wales it is the Working with Children Check.

Students must pass all professional experience components, including professional experience embedded within units and must fulfil the discipline-specific requirements for professional experience (e.g., minimum days in particular educational settings).

Students are required to follow the pattern of unit enrolment set out in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide unless otherwise approved by the Course Coordinator. In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator.

A student who has completed the following requirements may exit the course with that qualification. Note that none of these qualifications will lead to teacher registration.

2. Bachelor of Psychological Science:

a. 140 cp from Psychology Specified units from the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Part A)

b. 20 cp from Core Curriculum units (Part B)

c. 80 cp from Undergraduate Education units (Part C)

3. Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies:

40 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings of the Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies

4. Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies:

80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings of the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies

Progression requirements

Given this is a vertical double, should there be any progression requirements (e.g. GPA maintenance) to ensure that students progressing into the PG MTeach program are at appropriate academic performance standards? For example, would a student with a GPA of 4 (or perhaps lower!) typically be accepted into a MTeach?
