Definition

A Major consists of 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at 100-level, at least 40 cp at 200-level and at least 20 cp from 300-level

A Minor consists of 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at 100-level and at least 20 cp at 200/300-level.

Completion requirements

To qualify for the degrees, a student must complete 320 cp consisting of:

  1. 80 cp from Major in either Biblical Studies or Christian Thought (Part A);
  2. 80 cp from Major in Philosophy (Part B);
  3. 80 cp from:
  4. Major in Biblical Studies or Christian Thought (in alternative discipline to Part A, above) or from the Bachelor of Arts majors (Part C); OR
  5. Two 40 cp Minors from the schedule of minors, or from the Bachelor of Arts minors (Part D); OR
  6. One Minor (Part E), and 40 cp of Elective units* drawn from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, or from the Bachelor of Arts (Part F); OR
  7. Elective units* drawn from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, or from the Bachelor of Arts (Part F).
  8. 40 cp from:
  9. Minor in Biblical Studies or Christian Thought, in the alternative discipline to Part A above (Part G); OR
  10. If majors are taken in both Biblical Studies and Christian Thought, then either a Minor in another field (Part E), or elective units* drawn from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, or from the Bachelor of Arts (Part F). 
  11. 20 cp from Core Curriculum Units (Part H);
  12. 10 cp from Community Engagement Unit (Part I);
  13. 10 cp from Integrated Study Unit (Part J).


* Students may take Elective units drawn from the Minors in the Schedule of Unit Offerings (listed) or from the Schedule of Unit Offerings for the Bachelor of Arts.

Other requirements

In the total of 320cp, no more than 100 cp may be selected from 100-level units.

Exit points

A student who has completed 40 cp in Philosophy units may exit with the Non-Award Certificate in Philosophy.

A student who has completed 40 cp in Theology units, including THBS100 Introduction to the Bible and THCT100 What Christians Believe, may exit with the Non-Award Certificate in Theology.

A student who has completed 80 cp in Philosophy units may exit with the Diploma in Philosophy.

A student who has completed 80 cp in Theology units, including THBS100 Introduction to the Bible and THCT100 What Christians Believe, may exit with the Diploma in Theology.

A student who has completed 160 cp with at least 90 cp in Philosophy units, may exit with the Associate Degree in Philosophy.

A student who has completed 160 cp with at least 90 cp in Theology units, including THBS100 Introduction to the Bible and THCT100 What Christians Believe, may exit with the Associate Degree in Theology

Progression requirements

Unless otherwise approved by the Course Coordinator, a student must have completed at least 40 cp in 100-level units before undertaking 200-level or 300-level units.

Students should follow the pattern of unit enrolment set out in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide, unless otherwise approved by the Course Coordinator. In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator.
