Unit rationale, description and aim

This unit is an introduction to the internal laws that govern the Roman Catholic Church, known as 'canon law'. Students will examine the principles and history of canon law, as well as the 1752 canons promulgated in the 1983 Code of Canon Law. Topics include the hierarchical ordering of the Church, institutes of religious life, education, the sacraments, marriage annulment procedures, and sanctions in the Church.
