Frequently asked questions

General Information

Q: Why is Australian Catholic University (ACU) no longer accepting applications for non-exempt programs with a 2025 start date?
A: Due to the recent policy updates implemented by the Australian Government, and the high demand for ACU programs, we have reached our enrolment limit for 2025. We understand this may be disappointing, and we're dedicated to helping you explore other available options or adjust your study plans.

Q: Does this decision affect all programs offered by ACU in 2025?
A: No. We continue to accept applications for exempt programs including ELICOS (standalone courses), non-award pathway programs, research programs, and study abroad and exchange programs.

Q: I already have a student visa to commence my studies at ACU in 2025. Am I impacted?
A: No. Visa holders who have a CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment) to commence at ACU in 2025 are not impacted. You'll receive more details about enrolment and orientation activities closer to your program start. If you have deferred commencement from 2024 you will need to contact international.admissions@acu.edu.au to discuss your individual situation.

Q: I am an international student but do not require a student visa. Can I still apply for non-exempt 2025 programs at ACU?
A: Yes. If you have a valid visa with study rights and do not require a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from ACU for visa purposes, you can apply for any available program on any campus in 2025. Your visa must cover the entire duration of your studies.

Q: What English and pathway programs are still available for 2025?

A: Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), and Doctor of Ministry (DMin). Learn more about ACU research programs here.

Q: Are study abroad and exchange programs still available for 2025?
A: Yes. Learn more about ACU Study Abroad and Exchange programs here.

Application and Enrolment

Q: Can I still apply for a non-exempt program with a 2025 start date?
A: No. We've reached our enrolment capacity for non-exempt programs starting in 2025. We encourage you to explore our exempt programs, such as standalone English courses, non-award pathway programs, research programs, and study abroad and exchange programs. If you're interested in non-exempt programs, you may want to consider starting your studies in 2026.

Q: How do I apply for an exempt program?
A: Applications for exempt programs can be submitted through our online application system or via an authorised ACU education agent.

Q: I would like to apply for readmission to ACU in 2025. Is this still possible?
A: No, unless you do not require a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) or are applying for an exempt course or as an exempt student.

Q: Will I receive a full refund if I made payments but haven't received my Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)?
A: Yes. A full refund will be issued if you choose not to defer to a later intake or transfer to an alternative available program in 2025, should these be available for enrolment.

Deferrals and Refunds

Q: Can I defer my application to 2026?
A: Yes. However, applications for 2026 will not be automatically reconsidered unless requested. If you wish to defer your application to 2026, please contact your authorised ACU education agent (if applicable) or ACU through our communication channels for international students.

Q: How do I request a refund?
A: If you have been impacted, a notification would have been sent to you with instructions to refund. For more information, visit our Payments and refunds page.

Q: Is there a deadline to request a deferral or refund?
A: We recommend submitting a deferral request as soon as possible. Due to ongoing high demand, we anticipate reaching our enrolment capacity again in future years. Refunds can be processed anytime. If you're planning to apply to another institution, requesting a refund now can help facilitate your enrolment process there.

Study Abroad and Exchange

Q: I would like to study at ACU as an exchange/study abroad student in 2025. Is it still possible?
A: Yes. We continue to accept applications from eligible students who wish to participate in a study abroad and exchange program at ACU in 2025. These programs are not impacted by the ACU provider limit.

Future Intakes

Q: Are applications open for 2026?
A: Yes. We encourage you to apply early.

Q: Can I apply for a program with a 2026 start date?
A: Yes. Applications for all programs and campuses are currently open for 2026.

Entry Requirements

Q: Do I still need to meet Genuine Student (GS) requirements and other entry criteria for my application?
A: Yes.

Q: What are the Genuine Student (GS) requirements?
A: For more information, please refer to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) website or contact an authorised ACU education agent.

Support

Q: Who do I contact if I have questions or concerns?
A: You can contact your authorised ACU education agent, if you have one, or ACU through our communication channels for international students.

Q: How will this decision affect my current application?
A: If your application is impacted, you will have been notified with specific guidance.

Q: Can I transfer to an alternative program in 2025?
A: Yes, if your alternative program is an exempt program and still available.

Q: Will ACU reconsider applications for 2026?
A: Yes, we can reconsider your application for 2026, but it is not automatic, and you'll need to request it.
