I am a Lecturer in Nursing with Australian Catholic University at Blacktown campus, NSW. I am currently a Lecturer in Charge of one clinical unit and one theoretical unit for second- and first-year Bachelor of Nursing students. I love the student diversity and close-knit community feel of our smaller campus.
I was a casual academic tutor with Western Sydney University for seven years prior to my current role.
My areas of nursing interest include acute care nursing, palliative care nursing and nursing education. I have published research about clinical handover and ward culture in regional healthcare facilities.
I am a PhD candidate with Western Sydney University, my research area is regarding the delivery of end-of-life care in the regional community setting.
Prior to nursing I had ten years of experience working in child protection, case management and communications. My ten years working with homeless young people and families in crisis gave me an in-depth understanding of child protection legislation and the cycles of disadvantage that create vulnerable families. This intersects with the entrenched domains of addiction, child abuse and neglect, mental illness and maladaptive childrearing practices. This impacts upon my nursing career in that these vulnerable families are some of the primary groups represented in the clinical setting.
