In the past, Professor McArthur has worked as a researcher at the University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Oxford University, and Macquarie University. She is presently a Professor at the Australian Centre for the Advancement of Literacy at ACU, Director of Research Translation at the Dyslexia SPELD Foundation, Research Translator for MOTif (the Mobile Test Interface), and a Board Member of Street Library Australia. These roles all support the rapid translation of scientific knowledge into real-world practice.

Professor McArthur leads the Wellbeing in Literacy Lab (WiLL), which includes researchers from across Australia and Canada. WiLL’s primary goals are to understand (1) how reading and mental health are linked, and (2) how to leverage this link to boost literacy and wellbeing in all readers.
