Dr Mitchell is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Accredited Sports Dietitian whose research examines the influence of diet and exercise interventions on health and performance of athletes. He completed his PhD at University of Sydney focussing on diet, training, and physiology of drug-free bodybuilders. He then undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at University College Dublin working in childhood obesity.
Dr Mitchell's current research focusses on both the quantification of exercise energy expenditure as well as the influence of exercise energy expenditure and dietary intake manipulation on outcomes of low energy availability. This research has direct impact by assisting sports dietitians in providing more individual advice around dietary intake based on training parameters.
