In addition to Leanne's role as a Lecturer within the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine, Leanne works clinically as a credentialled diabetes educator, consulting with patients with all forms of diabetes within a multidisciplinary primary care general practice. Leanne also provides research assistance to Deakin University within the Deakin University and Western Health Collaborative, with her research interests being in diabetes management and primary care service delivery.
Leanne has worked for several years in program and project management roles, within the Western Queensland Primary Health Network, Australian Diabetes Society and National Association of Diabetes Centres. She has been heavily involved in diabetes service, pharmacy and high risk foot service accreditation, diabetes program/model of care development in rural Queensland, as well as been responsible for coordinating the National Diabetes Care Course and contributing to the development of educational conferences. Further, Leanne spent many years coordinating the expert review of diabetes resources and educational material produced through the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS), and reviewed NDSS product subsidy applications in her role as a Medical Education Scientific Advisory Council Project Officer.
