Australian Catholic University (ACU) and the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) are offering one full-time PhD scholarship to undertake sport science research exploring the relationship between coaches' perceptions and traditional measures of talent, seeking to enhance the adequacy and accuracy of current talent detection methods.

One PhD scholarship package is being offered in 2024 that will focus on talent identification and development (TID) programs that are linked to the QAS YouFor2032 goals. The research involves comparing coaching approaches of talent-identified and traditionally recruited athletes, contributing to the refinement of talent scouting sessions, and potential identification of new tests or data for more precise talent selection. The project is a collaboration between ACU, the University of New England (UNE), James Cook University (JCU), and the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS).

The scholarship is available for a high-performing candidate who has a particular interest in talent identification and development, skill acquisition, and coaching science. The candidate should have a particular interest in working with youth athletes across a range of Olympic and Paralympic sports. Furthermore, the successful candidate will work alongside the QAS Talent and Coaching team to support QAS initiatives.
