Admission requirements
A candidate for the degree of Master of Theology (Research) must comply with the Higher Degree Research Regulations.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed:
- an undergraduate degree in Theology (or equivalent) with Honours at a minimum level of Second Class Division A; OR
- a Master of Theological Studies with a distinction average or higher in THEL623 Theology Project C and THEL619 Introduction to Theological and Philosophical Research (or equivalent); and
- a specialisation in one of the theological disciplines, or philosophy as it relates to theology.
Meeting the requirements for admission is not in itself a guarantee of admission. The candidate’s potential to undertake research, the quality and feasibility of the research proposal, the availability of appropriate supervision and the referee’s reports will all be taken into consideration.

Completion requirements
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 80 cp, consisting of:
- 80 cp from Thesis A (Part A); OR
- 60 cp from Thesis B (Part B); and
- 20 cp from Coursework units (other than Religious Education units) listed in the Schedule of Unit Offerings for the Master of Theological Studies (Part C).
